The POLAR centrifuge

The centrifuge for de-oiling, drying, rinsing, coating and rust-proofing.

SIX ADVANTAGES IN ONE MACHINE
  • Simple handling

  • Safe performance

  • Little space required

  • Ready to connect up to size C6; control is directly mounted on machine.

  • Individual solutions due to specially designed receivers for the part to be centrifuged.

  • Versatile use for drying, de-oiling, oiling, coating, rinsing …

THE CONSTRUCTION OF THE POLAR C-ZENTRIFUGES
The centrifuge is driven by a special centrifugal motor. The drum is directly linked to the motor shaft.

The motor is centrally and elastically mounted in the step bearing. This allows self-centering. Depending on the application the centrifuge can be supplied with an appropriate drum.

The centrifugal lid is relieved through a gas pressure spring. The centrifuge can only be started if the lid is locked; the lid can only be reopened at standstill.

Up to size C6 the control of the centrifuges is integrated in the operating case

THE RANGE OF APPLICATION OF THE POLAR CENTRIFUGES
POLAR type centrifuges can be used in many ways for the separation of liquids and solid material.
In metal processing they are used for the recovery of coolants such as cutting oil or emulsion of metal swarf and for swarf processing for waste disposal or recovery. The residual moisture of steel and brass swarf after centrifuging usually is below 3%.

When centrifuging parts not only the recovery of coolants but also de-oiling is important for the following operation.

After centrifuging the parts are without drops and coated with a thin film of grease providing some corrosion protection.

In connection with an optional hot-air blower heating the POLAR type centrifuges are used in many electroplating shops for drying electroplated parts.
The greatest part of the water is spun off immediately at the beginning of the centrifuging process. The remaining water film is dried by hot air. Thus the parts can be dried in a quick, energy-saving process and are usually stainless.

POLAR type Centrifuges are also used for de-oiling and coating. To this end the centrifugal pan is equipped with an impervious conical external casing.
Inside the machine, at a slow rotational speed, the drum with the material to be coated is flooded with the coating fluid. Afterwards the speed is increased and due to the centrifugal force the coating liquid is spun out of the conical external casing. Coating of the parts can be influenced by the rotational speed and centrifuging duration.

THE OPERATION OF THE POLAR CENTRIFUGES
All processes within the centrifuge are automatically controlled. The charging and discharging of the material to be centrifuged and the opening and closing of the lid is carried out by the machine operator (pneumatic lid control as from C7).

By activating the start control the desired operation is started.

Upon request the centrifuges can be equipped with a lifting device mounted to the machine.

PRACTICAL EXAMPLES OF THE POLAR CENTRIFUGES

Problem:
In a small automatic lathe turnery swarf and parts were produced in five single-spindle and one multi-spindle automatic lathes.
Swarf is to be de-oiled, the parts are to be de-oiled and rinsed. Rinsing is to degrease them as far as possible before hardening.

Solution:
By using a Steimel centrifuge type POLAR C5eHS with oil and rinsing solution tank it became possible to carry out various operational processes:
  1. Pans with swarf or parts which are only to be de-oiled are placed into the drum by means of a mounted swing jib and an electric hoist. Then they are centrifuged.

  2. Parts to be rinsed are rinsed after de-oiling with warm alkaline rinsing solutions. After this process the rinsing solution flows back into the solution tank; after the rinsing process the parts are dried in the centrifuge with hot air.
Extensions:
In such machines not only de-oiling and rinsing processes are possible but also coating and lacquering processes with non solvent containing lacquers. (Solvent containing lacquers or coating agents upon request.)

Problem:
In a surface refinement manufactory drum material is treated in a galvanic automat with manual drum repositioner. Afterwards the parts are to be dried without getting stains.

Solution:
By using a Steimel centrifuge POLAR C5H it was possible to dry the parts quickly and without stains. The combination of centrifugal force and heat-insulated electric blower heating represents an energy-saving and approved possibility for drying electroplated drum material.

Extensions:
The centrifuges of the POLAR C type can not only be used for drying but also for aftertreatment such as coating, rust-proofing or lacquering with non solvent containing lacquers. (Solvent containing lacquers or coating agents upon request)
